SEED GROWING AGRICULTURAL INTERNSHIP

Start Date: April 1st, 2026
End Date: October 31st, 2026
We’re offering a hands-on, immersive seed-growing agricultural internship rooted in real work, real responsibility, and real mentorship. This is experiential learning in its truest form: consistent time in the field, a full growing season, and daily exposure to the rhythms and demands of land-based living.
If you’re looking for a season that will challenge you, ground you, and leave you with real competence - this is it.
The Structure:
-
Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–12:00 pm (20 hours/week)
-
Work takes place primarily in the Fourth Field at Linnaea Farm, with exposure to the broader farm system
-
You’ll work closely with Adam Schick, a market gardener and seed farmer, member of the BC EcoSeed Co-op with over 30 years of experience.
-
This role is part of our food security project, focused on meaningful, field-scale production rather than hobby-scale growing
Housing:
-
You will be housed in the Gatehouse Tower
-
Independent living
-
All utilities and Wi-Fi included
Focus Areas:
-
Seed stewardship and seed saving
-
Harvesting, handling, and processing
-
Field efficiency, timing, and care
-
Value-added product development for those who are motivated and self-directed
You’ll also have exposure to:
-
Livestock systems
-
Basic farm maintenance
-
Broader farm operations and infrastructure
What You’ll Learn:
-
Full-season crop production, from soil preparation to harvest
-
Seed saving practices and why they matter
-
How to eat directly from the garden and understand food at its source
Compensation:
This position is compensated through experiential learning, housing, and food from the garden - while living on Linnaea Farm in the center of Cortes Island. This includes all utilities and Wi-Fi.
What you gain:
-
Practical skills you can carry forward
-
Confidence earned through real responsibility
-
Strong, consistent mentorship
-
A lived understanding of farming, food systems, and self-reliance
This role is for people who value learning through doing and are prepared to invest their time and energy accordingly.
Who This Is For:
You don’t need to know everything - but you do need to show up fully.
This internship is best suited for someone who:
-
Is an independent learner with a strong work ethic
-
Has the financial resources to support themselves independently
-
With a 20-hour weekly farm commitment, there is ample time to pursue outside employment
-
Any outside work must not interfere with this internship’s schedule or responsibilities
-
-
Is comfortable working outdoors in all weather
-
Is curious, observant, and willing to learn through repetition and feedback
-
Is communicative, community-minded, and easygoing
-
Is reliable and steady over the long arc of a growing season
-
