Linnaea School
Drama is a beloved playground for children. Music is a voice we all share. Artistic expression allows us to connect with each other by sharing our unique and intimate experience of the world. Linnaea's comprehensive Fine Arts programme is one of the greatest gifts we give to our students.
-Donna Bracewell, Founder and Principal of Linnaea School

Many years, students, staff, parents and friends from the wider community have come together to stage a major musical play. The School Play gives children the opportunity to strive for excellence by giving their all to something they love.

Participation in the school play is an unparalleled method for teaching responsibility and teamwork. When students come to rehearsal unprepared, they feel the adverse effect on everyone. When they deliver a line or carry a harmony with style, they feel the uplift. At Linnaea, the accomplishment of a shy child delivering one line in front of an audience of seventy people is celebrated as much as the more confident child who narrates an entire scene with ease and expression. The staff strives to give each child a role they will enjoy and over the years, confidence builds and children seek larger roles.

These productions, which often highlight stories and myths from around the world, build students' empathy for people from other times and cultures. Theme study units linked to the play deepen students' experience. Student participation in making sets and costumes builds skills.

Because it takes a lot of time and energy for a small school to stage a big production, the School Play requires deep and generous support from the students, staff, parents and friends involved.
