Virtues are presented as skills that enhance relationships and life satisfaction. Staff present virtues (such as consideration, excellence, generosity, justice, patience) regularly for exploration through stories, class discussions and role plays. The virtues build a vocabulary for aspiration, intention and problem solving.
Staff and students practice conflict resolution by using a time line, honing listening skills and working to articulate problems without blame. Staff members encourage students to take responsibility and to work toward resolution.
Relationships are built through a high staff-student ratio. Programmes like reading buddies and Roots of Empathy encourage understanding of other age groups. Parent time requirements bring parents into the school, creating a bridge for students between home and school life.
Students learn about development and emotions with their Roots of Empathy baby
