Linnaea
Community Weather Station
Since 1993 David Buckner, a Linnaea Farm resident Steward, has monitored the island's weather station for the federal government.

He gathers temperature, precipitation, and general weather observations twice daily 365 days a year and submits monthly reports to Environment Canada. His labour is entirely voluntary. The statistics from such community weather stations provide information on weather patterns across the country and are useful in research of such problems as ozone depletion and global warming.

Interactive weather charts
You can now create your own charts using the two decades of daily weather records from this station.

Sky Watchers
Since 1998 the students of Linnaea School have participated in an educational weather reporting programme for Environment Canada.

The programme provides the school with the equipment and information to collect data on minimum and maximum daily temperatures, barometric pressure, precipitation, and wind direction and speed. The older students take turns collecting the information daily and phoning it in to the Sky Watchers office. Data from participating schools around the province are reported regularly on BCTV. Our students also record the data on various charts and graphs and present a weekly weather summary and weather trivia quiz questions to the rest of the school.
