Welcome
Located on Linnaea Farm, a 315 acre land trust on Cortes Island, B.C., Linnaea School offers a unique and exciting educational programme for sixty children from kindergarten to grade eight.

Our curriculum builds strong academic skills while nurturing attitudes and values that prepare students to be capable, confident, and caring adults who can meet the challenges of an increasingly complex world.
The School

Our Schoolhouse
The school is housed in a spacious, lakefront building nestled amongst playground, orchards and gardens.

The rich resources of the farm provide the students with the opportunity to learn through first hand experiences, skills and knowledge in animal husbandry, organic gardening, stream enhancement, and forest ecology.

The school was founded in 1987. It holds a Group One certificate and is partially funded by the B.C. Ministry of Education.

The Daily Circle
The heart of the school is the daily circle where all members meet to participate together in drama, storytelling, role-playing, music, and games. These activities develop in each of us skills in communication, problem solving, conflict resolution, and leadership, as well as tolerance and sensitivity for others.

Our Classes
Small and multi-aged classes of 12 to 18 students ensure that individuals' needs are recognized and met. The school employs one full time teaching principal, three full time and one part time certified teacher, and three education assistants.

A variety of part time instructors enrich the art, music and French programmes.

Several other instructors are employed for special short-term units of study, such as astronomy, organic gardening, equestrian skills, crafts and carpentry.

Our Annual School Play
Each year all our students, teachers, staff, as well as many parents and members of our island community put on a new school play.

The play is an original production written by our own Donna Bracewell.

Each child, grade K to 8, has at least one role and a hand-made costume.

The scenery is created during art classes.

The music is written and performed by islanders.

For two days our sold-out community hall overflows with theater magic.

In 2002 the school put on "The Ramayana".

Linnaea School is in the process of packaging these plays for other schools to perform. If you would like more information about these plays, please contact us.
